Arnold sets 100 IM pool record as Mammoths defeat Garnet Chargers, 223-66, to improve to 3-0 in dual meets

AMHERST, Mass. – First-year Paige Arnold set a Pratt Pool record in the 100-yard individual medley as the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team won every event en route to a 223-66 dual-meet victory over Union College on Saturday.

The Mammoths remained unbeaten in dual meets, improving to 3-0, while the Garnet Chargers fell to 4-2.

Amherst is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13, visiting seventh-ranked Williams at 1 p.m. for a dual meet to decide the Little Three Championship.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Arnold swam Pratt Pool's first-ever sub-one minute time in the 100 IM, touching in 59.61 to break the pool record of 1:00.17 set by Emily Hyde '16 in 2014. Arnold also won the 200-yard freestyle by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:54.68 and was a part of both winning relay teams. The first-year has now won all six individual races entered this season.

* The Mammoths opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as Arnold teamed with senior Caitlin Knight, junior Ali Lacroix and first-year Lucy Smith to clock in at 1:49.77.

* Knight, Arnold and Smith were joined by senior Grace Walker to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.38.

* Smith also won two individual events, sweeping the butterfly races with a time of 26.28 seconds in the 50-yard and 59.32 seconds in the 100-yard, both personal bests.

* Lacroix won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.77 and has now won all five individual races entered this season.

* Junior Cora Spelke swept the backstroke events for her first two wins of the season, covering 50 yards in 28.75 and swimming 100 yards in 1:01.70, both season-best times.

* Sophomore Donna Zhang swept the diving events, scoring 259.49 on the one-meter board and 285.90 on the three-meter board for her first two wins of the season.

* First-year Maeve Kelley also remained unbeaten through five collegiate races after winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.44.

* Swimming the event for the first time this season, junior Megan Lee touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 10:38.55 to pick up her first win of the season.

* The 50-yard breaststroke went to Joline Fong in 32.29 seconds, a season-best time that marked the first collegiate win for Fong.

* Sophomore Alex Zorn sprinted to a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 25.43 seconds for her first win this season.

* Senior Lauren Eng picked up her first win of the season with a season-best time of 55.11 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
