Tucker helps power Mammoths past Colby, 3-2

AMHERST, Mass. Two power-play goals by senior Ryan Tucker powered the Amherst College men's hockey team to a 3-2 conference win over Colby Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink.

The Mammoths improved to an 8-4-0 record overall, and a 4-3-0 mark in conference play. The Mammoths will host Tufts College Friday at 7 p.m. for another conference game.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mammoths secured their first power-play goal of the evening through a well-coordinated effort by Andrew Carmody. Carmody skated up the ice, engaging in a quick passing sequence with Ben Ritter. Quinton Fox, positioned at the high slot, then received the puck and took the initial shot, with Ryan Tucker capitalizing on the rebound to score with 2:06 left in the opening period.
  • At 6:22 into the second period, Connor McGinnis attempted a backhanded shot that went just wide of the net. A outlet pass from a Colby player was intercepted by Quinton Fox, who found the back of the net, securing Amherst's second goal.
  • The Mules made it on the scoreboard in the third period with 4:11 remaining, following a clear from the Mammoths' zone. Defenseman Griffin Grise carried the puck for an offensive push, taking a shot from the right side of the ice. While Connor Leslie made the initial save, winger John McElaney was quick to attack on the rebound, securing the finishing shot.
  • Amherst answered back at 17:30 of the third period with another power-play goal. Vincent Velocci's shot was sent wide of the post, but Matt Toporowski retrieved the loose puck, maneuvering it around the back of the net. Toporowski then passed the puck to Tucker, stationed in the low slot, who finished with a tip-in for the score.
  •  With only 10 seconds left in a 6-on-4 play, Colby's Jack Sullivan sent a shot that rebounded towards Nick Stapleton, where he then flicked it into the goal by the right post to account for the final score.
