LEXINGTON, Mass. – A brace and assist from senior captain
Ally Deegan and a goal and two assists from sophomore
Brooke Ingemi helped the 11th ranked Amherst College women's soccer team earn a 6-0 victory over the Lesley College Lynx to open its 2023 season on the road.
* Amherst begins the season ranked #11 in the United Soccer Division III Coaches' Preseason Poll rankings. Tonight's win gives the mammoths a 1-0-0 overall record for the season.The Mammoths will face Middlebury next, and will play the panthers on the road this Saturday at 2 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
*After outpossessing the Lynx for the first quarter of the game, and a corner headed into the goal by
Fiona Bernet was called back early in the game, junior
Patience Kum opened up the scoring for the Mammoths in the 21st minute, dribbling around the Lesley goalkeeper after a strong pass from
Brooke Ingemi. Three minutes later, Ingemi hit another pass with precision – this time to senior Deegan who netted the ball following her entrance to the game as a substitute.
* Deegan wasn't done, and scored her second goal for the evening 5 minutes later after a ball over the top from sophomore
Alyssa Huynh set her up nicely for a graceful one- touch volley. The fourth goal came three minutes after that, with Deegan heading the ball for Huynh to run onto and hit a screamer from the right side to finish out the first half.
*To open the second half,
Fiona Bernet got behind another cross, scoring off of a corner by
Precious Novidzro in the 56th minute. To finish out the scoring, senior captain
Abby Schwartz cut a cross back from the end line to be run onto by
Brooke Ingemi who kept her head as she rounded out the scoring for the mammoths in minute 79.
*All 26 healthy players were able to get good minutes in this game, and a high level of play was maintained throughout, making the 6-0 lead especially important for the seasons open.

* Amherst dominated shots, shooting 20 shots (13 on frame), to Lesley's 4 (0 on frame)
