GAME HIGHLIGHTS
* Amherst took a 1-0 lead about 20 minutes into the contest, capitalizing on a corner kick opportunity.
Liza Katz's corner kick sailed into the box, bouncing off a Tufts defender to
Patience Kum, who deftly used her left foot to send a shot back to the right that beat the Tufts goalie for the 1-0 lead.
* Tufts tied the game in the early minutes of the second half when Elsi Aires sent a beautiful shot into the upper 90 on the left side.
* The Mammoths regained the lead with 32:07 to go. A beautiful ball from Kum in the midfield allowed
Abby Schwartz to run onto the ball on the left side. She dribbled down to the end line, cut toward the goal and slid a pass in front of the goal. A Tufts defender settled it, but Kum, who had raced down the field after her pass, stole the ball from the defender at the six and, again using her left foot, slid a shot along the ground back to her right that found the corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead.
* It went to 3-1 with 26:08 minutes left. A
Fiona Bernet direct kick from 35 yards out was headed off a defender to the feet of
Jessica Lomo. Lomo immediately slid a pass to her right that found first-year
Katie Pedersen, whose shot back to the left found the far corner past the keeper for a two-goal lead.
* In the game's closing seconds,
Brooke Ingemi made it 4-1 after a very nice cross from
Charlotte McGuire found her along on the left side of the goal for the easy one-time shot and score.
