MEDFORD, Mass. -- Tufts' Andrea DelGiudice scored with 5 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in overtime Fridiay night to lift the No. 6th-ranked Jumbos to a 2-1 OT win over the Amherst College field hockey team at Tufts' Ounjian Field.
The Mammoths fell to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They are home Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to take on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths controlled time of possession in the first half and created five shots on goal and four penalty corner opportunities. Tufts had one shot.
* In the third quarter. thr Mammoths had two quality scoring chances, the first when
Sam Maynard had a one-on-one opportunity against Tufts' keeper Lydia Eastburn. Maynard dibbled into the circle but Eastburn rushed out and snuffed out her shot attempt.
* After Tufts was awarded its first penalty corner and
Sara Nidus made a nice quick save on a shot attempt, the Mammoths controlled the ball if the Tufts' circle and Mazambani slid a pass to
Abbey Kays from the left to center. Kays one-timed a shot, but Eastburn made yet another save.
* Amherst finally broke through with 7:xx left in the game.
Dylan Bloom slid a nice pass to Maynard at the top of the circle. Maynard drove into the left side of Tufts' circle and as she neared the goal, flipped a shot over Eastburn and into the goal.
* Tufts' gained the equalizer with just 2:38 left in the contest when, off a penalty corner, Hannah Biccard was able to gather in a rebound off a Nidus save and quickly fire it into the goal to make it 1-1.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Amherst finished with a 14-10 advantage in shots on goal. Eastburn made nine saves for Tufts. Nidus finished with four saves.
* Amherst had a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners in regulation time, but Tufts had a 4-0 edge in the extra 6-on-6 session.
