AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior
Liza Katz led all scorers with a goal and three assists while classmate
Patience Kum recorded a hat trick Thursday night as the 16th-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team rolled to a 9-0 win over Lasell University on Gooding Field.
The Mammoths improved to 3-0-1 with the win and are scheduled to take on conference rival Tufts University Saturday at 1 p.m., weather permitting. The Lancers saw their record even out at 3-3-0.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths scored in the game's 6th minute when senior
Abby Schwartz collected a pass on the left side of the box and slid a pass across the goalmouth to an uncovered Kum, who tapped it home into an open goal.
* In the 16th minute, first-year
Jessica Lomo ran onto a throw from
Carter Hollingsworth, deked left and then back to the right before placing a shot under the arm of the Lasell goalie for a 2-0 Amherst lead.
* Less than a minute later it was 3-0 Mammoths as Kum scored her second goal on a play very similar to the opening tally. This time it was
Alyssa Huynh dribbling into the left side of the box and sending a cross that found Kum on the right side. Kum quickly placed the ball in the back of the goal for the three-goal lead.
* Senior
Ally Deegan was next, receiving a through ball from Katz and she sped down the middle of the field, taking a shot a split second before a Lancer defender arrived and hitting the top right-hand corner for a 4-0 lead.
* Just before the half,
Gigi Golden, who had missed 2022 with an injury, ran onto a beautiful corner kick served into the box by Katz and bodied the ball home for a 5-0 halftime lead.
* Kum completed her hat trick just 6:25 into the second half of an assist from Katz.
* Goals by Katz,
Halle Hanna and
Brooke Ingemi completed the scoring.
* All three Mammoth goalkeepers --
Mika Fisher,
Katya Besch and
LuLu Fickes -- played. They did not see a shot on goal in the contest.

* The nine goals matched the Mammoths' season-high of nine from 2022, when the Mammoths defeated New England College 9-0 in October.
