AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Julia Jardina scored in overtime to lift Colby College to a 13-12 win over the Amherst College women's lacrosse team in a NESCAC clash on Saturday afternoon, escaping Gooding Field with a win after the Mammoths erased a six-goal deficit to force overtime.
The Mules, ranked 12th in the nation in the latest IWLCA Division III poll, improved to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play with their eighth straight win. The 15th-ranked Mammoths fell to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in the NESCAC.
The Mammoths are back in action Wednesday (April 12), visiting Connecticut College for a 6 p.m. NESCAC contest.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mules were in control early, scoring a quintet of goals in the first quarter before the Mammoths could break through with a goal from first-year midfielder
Bridget Finley late in the period.
* Colby put another pair of goals on the board in the second quarter to take a 7-1 lead before first-years
Clara Sosa and
Sofia Guttmann scored on free-position shots late in the quarter to make it a four-goal game at halftime.
* After first-year midfielder
Morgan Lebek converted a free-position shot to open the third, The Mammoths got back within two goals with tallies from Sosa, first-year attack

* The Mammoths opened the fourth quarter with two goals to even the score. Sosa scored on a free-position shot and Guttmann followed to level the score at 9-9 with 12:15 to play.
* The Mules reclaimed the lead less than a minute later as senior midfielder Elizabeth Hennessey scored her fourth goal of the game and sophomore midfielder Ainsley Dion pushed Colby's lead back to two with a free-position goal with 8:23 on the clock.
* Sosa scored her fourth goal of the game with 6:48 to play before senior attack
Sydney Larsen leveled the score again with a goal at 5:17 to tie the score at 11-11.
* Jardina gave Colby the lead with 2:41 to play but senior midfielder
Fiona Jones scored for the Mammoths with 29 seconds to play to send the game to overtime, where Jardina scored again, netting the game-winner on a free-position shot 43 seconds into the extra period.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Sosa led the Mammoths with four goals and one assist, while Guttmann also netted a pair.
* Many of the stats were as close as the final score as the Mules held a 30-28 advantage in shots, a 14-13 lead in ground balls and a 15-14 edge in draw controls, while each side caused 8 turnovers.
* Junior Sarah Hearns made eight saves in goal to earn the win for Colby.
