MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Amherst College softball team took the field for the first time in 12 days Friday, but the results did not go the Mammoths way as they suffered 9-1 (5 inn.) and 8-2 defeats at the hands of their conference rivals from Tufts University.
Amherst is now 13-5, 1-3 in conference play while Tufts improved to 19-1 overall and 4-0 in the NESCAC. The Mammoths are right back in action tomorrow as they stay on the road for a doubleheader at Middlebury College beginning at 2 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Tufts scored five runs in the bottom of the second tkt ake a commanding lead. Amherst scored its lone run in the fourth when junior
Sadie Pool had a one-out single, took second and then third on wild pitches, and scored on a
Dani Torres Werra groundout.

America Rangel had the other Mammoth hit, beating out a bunt for a single in the top of the fifth.
Megan Taketa drew the only walk for the Mammoths, and also reached on an error.
* Game 1 went five innings as Tufts scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to trigger the eight-run mercy rule.
* In the nightcap, Tufts scored at least one run in the first four innings to build a 6-0 lead.
Sadie Pool wrecked Tufts' pitcher Sophia Dicocco's perfect game when she led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to left field.
* The Mammoths scored again in the top of the sixth. First-year
Abby Moravek led off with a single but was forced out at second on an
Audrey Orlowski grounder. Orlowski moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a groundout from
Megan Taketa and scored when
Rachel Lovejoy beat out an infield single.
* Pool, Moravek and Lovejoy had one hit each in the loss.
