Sofia Guttmann and
Clara Sosa scored three goals each Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Amherst College women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-9 decision to #1-ranked Middlebury College.
The loss leaves Amherst at 9-4 overall and 5-4 in conference play heading into its season final at home against Trinity Wednesday at 6 p.m. Middlebury improved to 14-0 overall, 9-0 in the conference.Â
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst trailed 10-0 after the first quarter but outscored the Panthers 5-1 over the first 13 minutes of the second quarter to cut its deficit to six goals at 11-5.Â

Emily Petersen ignited the comeback with an unassisted goal at the 12:17 mark of the second quarter. Down 11-1, the Mammoths would score four straight in a span of 3 minutes and 32 seconds.Â
* Sosa got the ball rolling with an unassisted tally that came with 5:06 left.
Morgan Lebek scored 63 seconds later, also unassisted, to make it 11-3. Sosa scored her 34th goal of the season off an assist from
Kate Becker and then Gutmann scored unassisted with 2:34 remaining in the first half to make it 11-5.Â
*Middlebury scored two goals in the final 1:12 of the half, then opened the second half with two more goals, to build back its 10-goal advantage at 15-5.Â
