AMHERST, Mass. – Trinity College scored the first five goals of the game and never relinquished the lead en route to a 13-10 win over the Amherst College women's lacrosse team in NESCAC action on Wednesday evening on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium.
Both teams entered the regular-season finale with identical 5-4 conference records. The Bantams, ranked 13th in the nation in the latest IWLCA Division III poll, improved to 11-4 overall and finished fifth in the NESCAC.
The 14th-ranked Mammoths fell to 9-5 overall and finished tied with Williams for sixth place in the NESCAC. Amherst won the tiebreaker by virtue of their head-to-head victory over the Ephs this season, earning the Mammoths a trip to defending conference champion Tufts for a NESCAC quarterfinal matchup on Saturday (April 29).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Bantams controlled the game early on with junior midfielder Casey Ward and junior attack Caroline Lampert scoring for Trinity in the first quarter before Ward and first-year midfielder Grace Denious opened the scoring in the second.
* The two sides traded free-position goals down the stretch in the second quarter with first-year attack

Bridget Finley and Lebek scored for the Mammoths in the third quarter but the Bantams also netted a pair to maintain their four-goal lead heading into the final frame.
* The Mammoths found their offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter, scoring more goals than the first three quarters combined. Sosa struck first and Finley added a pair but the Trinity offense didn't let up and took a 12-7 lead with when junior attack Brooke Kurtz scored with 7:43 to play.
* Amherst scored three of the final four goals as first-year attack
Emily Petersen converted a free-position shot for her 37th goal of the season before Sosa took over the team lead in scoring with her 38th of the year. First-year midfielder
Sofia Guttmann scored a free-position shot in the closing seconds to bring the Mammoths back within three.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* For the seventh time this season and the third straight game, all of Amherst's goals were scored by first-years. The Mammoths' top five goal-scorers on the season are all first-years.
* Sosa and Finley each netted hat tricks to lead the Mammoths. It was the ninth hat trick of the season for Sosa and sixth hat trick for Finley. Sosa, Finley and Petersen have scored a goal in every game this season.
* The Bantams outshot the Mammoths by a 28-21 margin. First-year goalkeeper
Jessye Salmon made seven saves for the Mammoths. Splitting time in net for Trinity, junior Alyssa Vitale made two saves in the first half and first-year Ali Macdougall stopped three shots in the second half.
* The Mammoths held a 15-12 advantage in draw controls as senior midfielder
Fiona Jones controlled a career-best nine draws for Amherst.
* Trinity had an 18-16 edge in ground balls.
