Bridget Finley netted seven goals to lift the Amherst College women's lacrosse team to an 11-10 win over Williams in NESCAC action on Saturday afternoon at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium.
The Mammoths, ranked 15th in the nation in the latest IWLCA Division III poll, improved to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the NESCAC. The 14th-ranked Ephs saw their 10-game winning streak snapped and fall to 10-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Mammoths are back in action next Saturday (April 22), visiting defending national champion Middlebury for a 2 p.m. contest.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* After sophomore midfielder Claudia Russell scored to put the Ephs on the board first, the Mammoths took control with seven straight goals, six of which were scored by Finley, to take a 7-1 lead with 8:21 to play in the second quarter.
* A timeout and a goalie change sparked the Ephs, who answered with five straight, scoring a pair of goals before halftime and opening the third with three straight scores to cut the Amherst lead to 7-6.
* First-year attack
Emily Petersen scored with 5:58 to go in the third quarter to stop the run and restore a two-goal Amherst lead, but Williams responded with free-position tallies from junior midfielder Christina Halloran and first-year attack Lauren Morganlander to knot the score at 8-8 at the end of the third quarter.
* Finley scored her seventh goal of the game on a free-position shot to put the Mammoths back on top in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
* Russell scored for the Ephs on a free-position shot to tie the game at 9-9 with 10:21 to play but Petersen scored her second of the game less than a minute later to restore a one-goal Amherst lead.
* Ephs first-year Franny Donohue scored her third goal of the game with 4:47 to play, sending the game into the final minutes tied at 10-10.
* The decisive goal came with 1:39 to play as first-year attack

BY THE NUMBERS:
* Finley's seven goals in the game match the most by any NESCAC player this season and are the most goals in a game by an Amherst player since Priscilla Tyler '15 scored eight on April 2, 2013.
