CLERMONT, Fla.  -- Two very different kinds of wins had one thing in common Friday for the Amherst College softball team: Senior Jess Butler.

The Mammoths improved to 8-2 overall with a 16-0, 5-inn. breezy affair with the University of New England and a taught 6-5 come-from-behind thriller over the University of Southern Maine. 

In the win over the University of New England Butler had two three-run homers and finished 3 for 4 at the dish with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored.

In the win over the Huskies, Amherst trailed 5-0 after the top of the fifth but rallied for three in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh to win. In the Amherst 7th, Megan Taketa got things started with a one-out single to left. Rachel Lovejoy followed with another single. Autumn Lee followed with an RBI-single to center that tied the game and put runners on second and third.

A Sadie Pool walk loaded the bases and after a forceout at home for the second out, Butler ripped a game-winner up the middle that plated Lee.
