CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Amherst College softball team went out swinging Saturday, pounding out 27 hits in two games en route to a 6-5 win over Union College and a 12-1, 5-inn. mercy-rule win over Carleton College.
The sweep allowed the Mammoths to head home with a 10-2 record after six days in Florida. They will open the New England portion of their schedule Wednesday at WPI with a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths trailed Union 3-0 heading into the top of the fourth, but scored a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth to build a 6-4 lead. There were some key pinch-hit in the sixth, including a tie-breaking two-run double that made it 6-4.
