WORCESTER, Mass. --
Randi Finkelstein drove in eight runs and crushed three home runs Wednesday to help power the Amherst College softball team to an 8-2, 11-9 sweep of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
The Mammoths improved to 12-2 overall. They are back in action Saturday for a doubleheader at Wesleyan University as conference play begins. First pitch is 12 p.m.
GAME 1 Highlights:

Sadie Pool opened the top of the second with a single.
Dani Torres Werra singled her to second and after a forceout, Finkelstein lined a sacrifice fly to deep center field for a 1-0 lead.
* In the Amherst fourth,
Autumn Lee led off with a double and Pool followed with a two-run home run that made it 3-0 Mammoths. Torres Werra followed the long ball with a single and
Jess Butler doubled her to third. Finkelstein came through with an RBI-single for a 4-0 lead.
* Up 6-1 in the top of the sixth, Finkelstein launched a solo home run to left, her fourth of the season.
* Torres Werra picked up the win from the circle, going 5 strong innings and allowing only three hits and one run while not walking a batter and striking out seven to improve to 4-2 on the season.
GAME 2 Highlights:
* Down 2-0 after the first,
Abby Moravek lined a two-run double in the top of the second to tie the game and scored on
Rachel Lovejoy's double to give the Mammoths a 3-2 lead.
* Down 4-3, Amherst tied it in the third when Finkelstein's RBI-groundout scored Pool.
* Amherst took the lead for good in the fourth when, with one out,
America Rangel beat out a bunt for a single, then went to second on a wild pitch. Lovejoy reached on an error that advanced Rangel to third and Lee plated both runners with a to-run double for a 6-4 lead.
* The Mammoths made it 9-4 in the fifth when Torres Werra led off with a single, Butler lined a single to right center, and Finkelstein destroyed a pitch for a three-run home run to left.
* Up 10-4 in the top of the seventh, Finkelstein lined a solo homer to center for her third home run of the day and sixth of the season.
* Down 11-4, WPI rallied for five runs and trailed 11-9 with runners on second and third with two outs when Moravek got the final batter to line out to right field to end the game.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* On the day, Finkelstein was 5 for 7 with 3 HRs and 8 RBI. Pool and Torres Werra were both 4 for 7 in the twinbill.
