#11 Mammoths blank Bowdoin, 1-0, on Hollingsworth tally

BRUNSWICK, Me.- The 11th-ranked Amherst College Mammoths beat the Bowdoin Polar Bears on the road this afternoon. Junior defender Carter Hollingsworth scored her first goal of the season to provide the winning margin.

With this win, the Mammoth's record improves to 9-1-1 on the season and to 6-1-1 in the NESCAC. Bowdoin's record falls to 6-3-2 overall, 3-2-1 in the conference. Amherst will be at home next Saturday to face Rhode Island College on Hitchcock field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

*After outpossessing the Polar Bears for the entire first lad half and having three very dangerous chances, the scoreboard didn't show the Mammoth domination in the first 45 minutes.

* Bowdoin came out with fire in the second half and had a good attack up the right side of the field and a good opportunity from the resulting corner kick.

*After that, the Mammoths regained their momentum and continued to chip away at the bears. 8 minutes into the half, senior captain Abby Schwartz drew a corner for the mammoths. Precious Novidzro took the kick, and after it was headed out of the Bowdoin box, junior Carter Hollingsworth rocketed a shot from just outside of the box into the top left corner of the net, her first goal of the season.

*After the goal, Amherst continued to attack and create chances for themselves. With 15 minutes left in the game, the Mammoths had three great efforts including a crossbar shot which dropped just in front of the goal line by Abby Schwartz. Another close call was a shot by Ally Deegan which came off of a pass from Katie Pederson but slid just wide.

*The game concluded 1-0, and the Amherst bench was loud throughout the entire game.
