Mammoths win streak snapped at Trinity, 4-0

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Trinity men's hockey team scored four unanswered goals in the second period Saturday en route to a 4-0 victory over Amherst at the Albert Creighton Williams '64 Rink. The loss snapped a six-game win streak for the Mammoths. 

Amherst is 12-4-2 overall and 10-2-0 in the conference. The Mammoths trail the Bantams by one half-point in the standings at the top of the NESCAC.  They are back in action at Orr Rink Friday, February 3 for a 7 p.m. puck drop. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Amherst took 8 shots on goal in a relatively even first period, killing off one Trinity power play in the process and holding the Bantams to only six shots on goal in the period. 

* Gerrard Maretta got Trinity on the scoreboard just 4:48 into the second period, the first of three goals he would score in that frame. The Bantams went on to score three goals in a 6:29 span to build a 4-0 lead after two periods. Amherst was limited to four shots on goal in the middle period. 

* In the final period, Amherst how two power-play opportunities but managed one shot on goal and was outshot 7-1 over the 20 minutes by Trinity. Bantam first-year goaltender Devon Bobak picked up the shutout with 13 saves. Alex Wisco got the start for Amherst and made 15 saves before giving way to Dan Dachille, who stopped three shots in his 10:05 in the net. 

BY THE NUMBERS:

* It was the first time the Mammoths had been shut out this season. They were outshot 22-13 in the game. 

* The two teams split the 60 face-offs in the game, each winning 30. Matt Toporowski won 13 of the 19 draws he took. 

* Each team was penalized four times. Amherst went 0 for 3 on power play chances. Trinity was 1 for 3.
