#25 Amherst tallies 166-125 victory in dual meet at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior Jess Gordon and sophomore Ali Lacroix each won two races in the pool and first-year Donna Zhang swept the diving events to lead the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team to a 166-125 victory over NESCAC rival Connecticut College in a dual meet on Saturday at the Lott Natatorium.

The Mammoths, ranked 25th in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, improved to 5-1 in dual meets this season, while the Camels fell to 3-3.

The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28, visiting sixth-ranked MIT for a 1 p.m. dual meet.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Gordon won both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She posted a mark of 1:55.25 for her third win of the season in the 200 free and touched in a season-best time of 5:11.32 to win the 500 free for the second time this season.

* Lacroix swept the breaststroke races for the fourth time this season, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.65 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:23.75.

* Zhang won both diving events with personal-best scores. The first-year posted a 304.42 for her first collegiate win on the one-meter board and scored a 304.05 for her second win of the season on the three-meter board, which clinched the meet win for the Mammoths.

* Sophomore Megan Lee swam the 1650-yard freestyle for the first time this season and won the event in which she earned All-America honors last season with a time of 18:10.47.

* First-year Kate Aubrecht touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.50 seconds for her first collegiate win in the splash and dash.

* Junior Lauren Eng was a winner in the 100-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 53.84 for her first win of the season at that distance.

* First-year Alex Zorn won the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 59.66 seconds for her first collegiate win in the butterfly.
