AMHERST, Mass. --
Mohammed Alausa scored six of his team-high 19 points in overtime Saturday as the Amherst College men's basketball team rallied for a 75-62 OT win at conference rival Bates College.
The Mammoths improved to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play this season. They are at Williams College Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a non-conference tilt with their Little 3 rivals.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst led by as many as 16 in the second half, but needed a pair of missed three throws with two seconds remaining in regulation to push the game into overtime.
* Once in the extra session, the Mammoths took over, outscoring their hosts 15-2. They hit 3 of 4 shots from the floor, including two Alausa three-pointers, and went 7 for 10 from the foul line. Bates, in contrast, was 1 for 9 from the floor and 0 for 4 from beyond the arc.
* Amherst went on a 10-0 run to start the extra session, putting the game away. A
Ryker Vance jumper 16 seconds in gave the Mammoths a lead they would not relinquish, After a rebound by
Will Scherer on the defensive end, Alausa popped in his 5th trey of the game for a five-point lead. Just over a minute later, he drained his sixth and final three to make it a 68-60 lead.
* Amherst then went 7 of 10 from the line in the final 2:06 to keep Bates at bay.
Canin Reynolds made 5 of 8 freebies in that time.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Alausa, playing in just his fifth game of the season due to injury, went 6 for 6 from the three-point line in the game and also had 5 rebounds and a block.
* Reynolds and
Noah Helmke joined Alausa in double figures for Amherst with 12 points apiece. Scherer grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds as the Mammoths dominated the glass, out-rebounding Bates 58-31.
* Vance had 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals for the Mammoths.
