#11 Mammoths post 3rd successive shutout to beat Mules 2-0

WATERVILLE, Me. – Sophomores Patience Kum and Fiona Bernet scored two goals in the first 32 minutes to take down the Colby College Mules on Sunday Serdjenian Field.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* In a similar fashion to the game versus the Bates College Bobcats the day before, Amherst dominated the opening part of the game. The Mammoths totaled five shots and three corner kicks in the first ten minutes as the away side's forwards pummeled the Mules' defenders. Colby goalkeeper, Emily McMaster, was forced to make four strong saves to prevent Colby from falling behind early on.

* Amherst's pressure was rewarded in the 20th minute with a goal from Patience Kum - her first of the season. Kum, who was involved in a plethora of goals for the Mammoths last season during her freshman year, converted her second shot of the game to put Amherst ahead.

* Kum nearly doubled her tally of goals four minutes after if it wasn't for an athletic save from McMaster, however it took only another 11 minutes for Amherst to score again. Fiona Bernet was the scorer, after narrowly missing a headed chance over the crossbar just before.

* The second half involved a lower number of scoring opportunities for either side. One 10-minute period early in the second half involved some poor tackling from Colby, who gave away four consecutive fouls away on several Amherst players. Amherst goalkeeper,

* Junior Mika Fisher, made two saves in the second half when Colby found the infrequent opportunity to take shots on goal. Fisher has helped Amherst achieve three shutouts on the bounce this week.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Amherst now holds a 6-1-0 overall record (3-1-0 in NESCAC) for the season.

* Up next: after winning the first three of four consecutive away games, the Mammoths will return to Massachusetts to play NESCAC rivals, the Williams College Ephs, on Saturday at 12pm on Cole Field in Williamstown, Mass.

* The Mammoths took 19 shots (14 on goal); the Mules took 6 shots (5 on goal).
