WATERVILLE, Me. – Two goals in six minutes gave the Amherst College men's soccer team its third tie of the season with the Colby College Mules on Sundayon Serdjenian Field.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* For the first time this season, Amherst conceded the first goal of the game. Colby opened the scoring in the 12th minute, against the run of play, with the Mules' first shot of the game. Colby's Colin Sullivan scored with an accurate long shot fired into the bottom corner of the goal - past the outstretched glove of goalkeeper Senior
Bernie White in between the Amherst posts. The score remained 1-0 until half-time.
* Colby doubled their lead with the first of three goals scored in the second period of the game. Ethan Fabricant netted his third goal of the season with a looping header just over a diving White, assisted by Ethan Franco.
* Amherst pulled one back in the 77th minute. The goal was awarded as an own goal with the ball deflecting off a Colby defender before hitting the goal. The momentum from Amherst's first goal helped Amherst equalize six minutes later. A sublime one touch cross from Sophomore
Micah Valadez Bush reached Junior
Declan Sung in the middle of the penalty box. Sung executed a one touch tap-in from short range. After a second of hesitancy from the officials over whether the ball had crossed the goalline, the referee blew the whistle to award the Mammoths a well-deserved second goal.
