#18 Amherst makes it three wins in a row with 2-1 win against Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Juniors Abby Schwartz and Ally Deegan both scored goals to help Amherst defeat Massachusetts rivals, the Smith College Pioneers, on Sunday afternoon.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Straight from the kick-off, Amherst were on the front foot. The Mammoths' pressure eventually paid off  in the 30th minute, with the team's 9th attempt towards goal. Junior Liza Katz whipped in a corner kick from the right side for Deegan to find space in the box and head the ball into the goal immediately after coming onto the pitch as a substitute.

* Amherst's second goal arrived off a counter-attack after Amherst goalkeeper, Junior Mika Fisher, directly caught a Smith College corner. Fisher quickly got the move going and, after a string of passes, Sophomore Patience Kum dribbled past a defender on the right sideline to pass the ball to Abby Schwartz who smashed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

* Smith pulled one goal back with eight minutes until the final whistle. Riley McKenna ran behind the Amherst defense to collect a pass from the edge of the box through a group of players. McKenna calmly rolled the ball past Fisher's right side.

BY THE NUMBERS:
* Amherst now hold a perfect 3-0-0 overall record (1-0-0 in NESCAC) for the season.

* The Mammoths' next match will be versus the Tufts University Jumbos on Hitchcock Field at 12 p.m. on Hitchcock Field

* Amherst dominated the attempts, with 16 shots (8 on goal), compared to Smith's 4 shots (3 on goal)
