CAMBRIDGE, MASS – The Amherst College women's tennis team traveled to the DuPont Tennis Courts on Friday, April 29
th, to take on the #6 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Engineers. The match took place at 5pm on outside courts.
The #9 Mammoths began 2-1 down after the doubles matches, with first-years
Mia Kintiroglou and
Deliala Friedman coming out as victors, in a match which came down to a tiebreak, to secure a win at the #1 doubles spot.
MIT put up another strong showing in the 6 singles matches, winning 4 of them at the #1, #2, #4 and #6 spots. At the #3 and #5 spots,
Deliala Friedman '25 and
Mia Kintiroglou '25 brought their momentum from the doubles into the singles; Friedman won 6-4 6-1 and Kintiroglou won 3-6 6-3 7-6. Missing some starting players due to illness, Amherst struggled against a strong MIT team. This ends Amherst's 4-match winning streak, and simultaneously improves the Engineers' record to 16-1.

Amherst are now 9-6, while their NESCAC record remains 9-6. Friday's match was Amherst's first of three matches during the weekend. The Mammoths now travel straight from Cambridge, Massachussetts to Brunswick, Maine, to compete against the Bates College Bobcats at the Wallach Tennis Center. This match will take begin at 2 pm. On Sunday, Amherst will return to the Boston area to take on the #10 Tufts University Jumbos, at the Lower Campus Tennis Courts, at 2 pm.
