Mammoths engineer 14-10 come-from-behind win over M.I.T.

AMHERST, Mass. -- Ryan McIntyre went 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs -- including a go-ahead three-rum home run in the bottom of the fifth inning -- to help the Amherst College baseball team engineer a 14-10 come-from-behind victory over the Massachusetts Institute of the Technology Sunday at Memorial Field.

The Mammoths improved to 11-16-1 overall while M.I.T. fell to 10-19-1 overall. Amherst is off until Wednesday the 27th when it welcomes Clark University to Memorial Field for a 4 p.m. start on Military Appreciation Day.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The two teams combined for 24 runs, 18 hits, 22 walks and eight hit batsmen. Amherst rallied from 3-1 and 6-4 deficits.

* In the Amherst fourth, trailing 3-1, Jack Dove, Christian Limon and Jack Boyle worked walks to start the frame. Limon stole second and no one covered second on the play as the throw sailed into center field, allowing Dove to score. Boyle then walked and stole second, and McIntyre followed by lining a two-run single into center field for a 4-3 lead.

* Trailing 6-4, Jackson Reydel got the Amherst fifth started with a single through the shortstop hole but after an out, he was thrown at trying to steal. With two outs and nobody on, Limon was hit by a pitch and Boyle singled to center. McIntyre then crushed an offering to deep left field that cleared the fence for a three-run home run and a 7-6 lead.

* The Mammoths broke it open with a five-run sixth inning in which they had only one hit but scored on a bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly, a steal of home and two wild pitches.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* Boyle was 2 for 2 with three walks and four runs scored. Reydel was 2 for 2 with one walk, one one run scored and an RBI. Murphy was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

* Amherst's Tyson Luna was by far the most effective of the 12 pitchers who threw in this contest and earned the win to improve to 3-2 on the season. Luna threw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out one Engineer,
