Kendall nets five to lead #19 Amherst to 12-7 win over Connecticut College

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior captain Becky Kendall scored a career-high five goals to lead the Amherst College women's lacrosse team to a 12-7 win over Connecticut College in NESCAC action on Wednesday evening at Gooding Field.

The Mammoths, ranked 19th in the nation in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Poll, improved to 8-4 on the season and 3-4 in NESCAC play, while the Camels fell to 5-7 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday (April 16), visiting Little Three rival Williams for a 6:30 p.m. NESCAC contest.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths got the game off to a strong start, outscoring the Camels by a 6-1 margin in the first quarter. Kendall completed a hat trick with 4:09 left to play in the first and sophomore attack Campbell Moriarty scored back-to-back goals late in the first quarter.

* Junior midfielder Sydney Larsen scored her second goal of the game for the Mammoths with 11:31 on the clock in the second quarter. From there, the Camels held Amherst scoreless through halftime and scored four unanswered goals to cut the Amherst lead to 7-6 when senior captain Kelly Wolin scored with 7:36 to go in the third quarter.

* Kendall scored her fourth goal of the game late in the third quarter and added another in the fourth. Moriarty completed her hat trick in the final frame and first-year midfielder Rachel Rogers scored her third career goal to restore a five-goal lead for the Mammoths. Senior attack Marina Bevacqua scored in her seventh straight game to cap the scoring.



BY THE NUMBERS:

* Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Stole made 11 saves to earn the win for the Mammoths, making double-digit saves in back-to-back games as the Camels held a 25-23 edge in shots and 18-15 advantage in shots on goal.

* Junior defender Colleen Mooney caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls for the Mammoths.

* The Camels had a 13-10 advantage in draws with first-year midfielder Aine Downey controlling six draws for the Camels and first-year midfielder Lauren Friedman collecting four draw controls for the Mammoths.
