AMHERST, Mass. -- Dylan Judd hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning and A.J. Karabenick toss a perfect 3 1/3 innings of relief Friday as the Wesleyan University baseball team clipped Amherst College in both teams conference opener at Memorial Field, 6-5.
Amherst dropped its fifth consecutive game to fall to 4-7 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Mammoths and Cardinals are back in action Saturday in a Little 3 doubleheader in Middletown with the first game starting at 12 p.m. Wesleyan stands at 8-7, 1-0 after Friday's victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
Jackson Reydel led off with a walk. After an out,
Chris Murphy roped a drive into left-center for a single, sending Reydel to third. On the play, Murphy headed toward second but was caught in a rundown. During the ensuing rundown, Reydel broke for home and his slide beat the throw for the game's first run while Murphy scampered into second safely.
Luke Padian followed by ripping a single between first and second that Murphy scored on to make it 2-0.
* Wesleyan countered with four runs in the top of the third, the big hit a two-out, two-run single up the middle by Ryan Molinari.
*Amherst scored one in the third and two in the fifth to re-take the lead at 5-4. In the fourth with two outs, Reydel launched his team-leading third home run over the fence in left to make it a 4-3 game.
* In the fifth,
Jack Dove worked a one-out walk and went to third on
Ryan McIntyre's single to right.
Daniel Qin came through with a lien drive single to center that scored Dove with the tying run and sent McIntyre to third. Reydel followed with a sacrifice fly to center which scored McIntyre with the go-ahead run.
* Wesleyan took the lead back when Judd hit a two-out, two-run home to right field in the sixth.
* In the Amherst sixth,
Jack Boyle worked a two-out walk from Wesleyan starter David Tirrell. Karabenick came on to retire Dove on a foul ball to first and end the inning, the first of his 10 consecutive outs. He earned his first save of the season, while Tirrell improved to 2-1.

Tyson Luna came on and threw three hitless innings of relief, allowing only one baserunner on a walk while striking out four batters.
Sachin Nambiar had a strong start for Amherst, going six innings and giving up five hits, and a walk while fanning five. He did hit four batters. Of the six runs he allowed, only three were earned.
* Amherst had seven hits. McIntyre was 2 for 4. Reydel was 1 for 2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly.
