NESCAC schedule opens for #20 Amherst with 9-0 sweep of Connecticut College

3/27/2022 10:31:00 AM

LUDLOW, Mass. – The Amherst College men's tennis team returned to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing 9-0 win over NESCAC foe Connecticut College. This was the Mammoths' first conference match and took place on indoor tennis courts at the Ludlow Tennis Club, rather than Amherst's outdoor tennis courts, due to inclement weather.

Amherst was off to a flying start after sweeping the doubles matches to obtain a 3-0 lead. This momentum was carried forward into the singles as the team wearing all purple romped home with victory in every match without dropping a set. Damien Ruparel continued his impressive unbeaten run at the #1 singles spot. With the match being played on four indoor courts, the singles matches were played in a randomly-generated order, as per a change to this year's NCAA rules; today, singles matches #1, #2, #4, and #5 were on court immediately, with #6 and #2 coming onto courts as soon as they became available.

The Mammoths, ranked 20th in the nation in the latest ITA Division III Rankings, return to Ludlow Tennis Club to face their Little Three rivals, the 26th-ranked Wesleyan Cardinals, at 10 a.m. on Sunday (March 27).
