CLAREMONT, CA.  – The Amherst College men's tennis team fell to the #3 Washington University in St. Louis Bears at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in  on Friday. This was the Mammoths' first match in the Stag Hen Invitational Tournament, and first match this season against a team ranked in the top 15 in the country.
 
Each of the doubles matches went to the wire, but all three went in the Bears' favor. Amherst suffered defeats with a score of 8-6 and two scores of 8-7. The Mammoths battled back in the singles, with each of the three seniors, Harris Foulkes, Willie Turchetta, and Damien Ruparel, winning their matches.
 
In the afternoon, Amherst were then defeated closely by the #15 Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties in their 2^nd round match at the Stag Hen Invitational tournament on Friday afternoon.
 
The Mammoths went 2-1 down after the doubles matches, in matches which were decided by merely a few points. The singles matches was then 3 apiece between the two tightly-matched teams, giving Gustavus Adolphus a 5-4 win.

Amherst will face the Emory University Eagles, the 2021 National Champions and #5 in the country, on Saturday March 19^th. This will be the Mammoths' final match of the Stag Hen Invitational tournament, and the team's final match of their Spring Break week in California, before heading home to face more competitive opposition in New England. The match will begin at midday ET.
