COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. --
Elizabeth Rose and
Ashley Tucker each had three goals and an assist Wednesday night as the Amherst College women's lacrosse team defeated Colorado College on its own Washburn Field, 12-8,
Amherst improved to 2-1 on the season. They will play McDaniiel Thursday at Colorado College. Game time is 4:30 p.m. EST.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Elizabeth Rose scored off an assist from Tucker and Tucker added an unassisted tally. It was 2-1 after a quarter and 2-2 early in the second when the Mammoths went on a three-goal spree to build a 5-2 lead.

Lauren Friedman ignited the run with a free position goal with 6:41 to go before halftime, flipping a shot into the right-side of the goal. Tucker scored her second goal of the night with 2:20 left, circling around the net to the right and firing a shot shortside for a 4-2 lead. It was Rose who made it 5-2 with 1:49 remaining, running onto a pass in front of the goal and one-timing a shot into the right side.

Becky Kendall started the scoring in the third period, converting a pass from Friedman, After Colorado College scored two consecutive goals to make it 6-5,
Sydney Larsen won the draw for the Mammoths and raced downfield unabated to the goal, where she fired a pass by the keeper for a 7-5 lead with 5:59 remaining in the period.
* Freidman made it 8-6 with a singular effort coming with 3:11 left in the period, weaving her around defenders on the right side and flipping a shot into the far corner. Only 58 seconds later, Kendall scored her second goal off a pass from Rose that made it 9-6.
* Rose scored an important goal with 4:47 left in the game after much of the final stanza had been scoreless, weaving her way across the goal mouth before turning and firing a shot into the goal for a 10-7 lead.
Eliza Marcus made it 11-7 with 2:56 left with a free position goal. Tucker closed the scoring with a goal that came with just eight seconds remaining.
BY THE NUMBERS:
* The Mammoths outshot their hosts by a 31-22 margin. They had a 16-7 advantage in draw controls and turned the ball over one less time than their hosts, 19-18. In addition, Amherst was successful on 14 of its 15 clear attempts in the game.

Megan Larmann led Amherst with five groundballs.
Fiona Jones topped the team with eight draw controls. Larsen and Larmann had two caused turnovers each.

Caroline Fischer (5) combined to make eight saves in goal for the Mammoths.
