Mammoths open with 8-1 victory over #18 Sewanee

MALIBU, CA – The Amherst College men's tennis team made its return to the courts on Monday morning, after nearly five months of break, to take on #18 Sewanee: The University of the South, from Tennessee. In their spring season opener. The Mammoths eased to victory, 8-1, at a neutral venue at Pepperdine University.
 
The Mammoths were dominant throughout, winning 2 out of the 3 doubles matches, before winning a clean sweep of 6 out of 6 singles matches. Shaw Rhinelander '23 was very happy with the energy that the team brought on court, saying "it was a really great effort by all the boys out there today, and it really sets the tone for the rest of the Spring season."

The convincing win for the Mammoths gives the team a record of 1-0 for their first Spring season since 2018-19. The Purple and White will next take on #32 Cal Lutheran, at the Poulson Tennis Center at Cal Lu's campus in Thousand Oaks, CA. This match will take place  at 1PM PST on Tuesday. The Mammoths have a busy Spring break schedule, with 5 more upcoming dual matches in California before returning to Western Massachusetts.
