Mammoths forge 2-2 tie with Bowdoin on Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. –  The Amherst College women's hockey team rallied from a one-goal deficit to take the lead, but ultimately settled for a 2-2 tie with conference rival Bowdoin Saturday afternoon at Orr Rink.

Amherst celebrated its six seniors with a Senior Day celebration prior to the game. 
 
 The Mammoths moved to 8-7-1 (5-5-1 NESCAC), while Bowdoin is now 9-6-1 (5-5-1 NESCAC), The two teams complete the two-games series Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

*
After a scoreless first period, Bowdoin took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Gia Massari at the 11:58 mark of the second period. Four minutes later, Amherst netted the tying goal while on a 5 on 3 power play. Stephanie Nomicos controlled the puck at the blueline and rifled a pass to Anna Baxter at the bottom of the right face-off circle. Baxter slid a pass into the slot right outside the crease where Rylee Glennon took it,, drew the puck back and rifled a shot into the top right corner to tie the game. 

* The Mammoths took its first lead of the game midway with 10:25 left in the third period. Alyssa Xu won the puck along the right boards and backhanded it back to the right point to Leslie Schwartz, who fired shot from the right point towards the crease. Kate Pohl tipped the puck over the right pad of Bowdoin goalie Dani Marquez for the lead. 

* Bowdoin's Jackie Miller tallied the equalizer three minutes later. 

* In the 3 on 3 overtime session, Carly Daley snuck the puck out of the left corner and attacked the goal, but her shot to the short side was deflected just past the pipe. 



BY THE NUMBERS

* Bowdoin outshot the Mammoths, 30-27. Bowdoin went 0-for-3 on the power play., Amherst was 1-for-6 on the power play. Senior Caitlin Walker made 28 saves for Amherst. Marquez finished with 25.
