BRUNSWICK, Maine –
Ben Kuzma scoted two goals Saturday afternoon to lead the Amherst College men's hockey team to a 5-3 conference win on the road at Bowdoin.
The Mammoths improve to 7-9-2 (6-6-1 NESCAC) while the Polar Bears slip to 5-8-4 (5-6-3 NESCAC). Amherst is at Colby tomorrow fdor a 1 p.m. puck drop.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
* Amherst's Kuzma evened the game 10 minutes later, capitalizing on an Amherst power play. Kuzma handled around the top of Bowdoin's zone and made his way to the right circle, slipping a shot through the pads of
Alex Kozic. Mammoth forward Bobby Luca poked the puck in on the right post to give Amherst a 2-1 lead at 9:09 in the second. A minute later
Connor McGinnis made it 3-1 with a wrister after winning the puck off the right boards and skating center.
* Amherst scored a power play goal minutes into the third. Kuzma blasted a shot from the top after quick passes on the right side by
Joey Verkerke and
Matt Toporowski for a 4-1 lead.
* After a power-play goal earlier in the third made it 4-2, Bowdoin pulled Kozic for an extra skater and scored to make it 4-3 late in the game, but
Sean Wrenn cleared his own zone from the right face-off circle and hius clear meandered its way into the empty net with 1.2 seconds to seal the 5-3 Amherst win.

* Leslie made 15 saves for the Mammoths in the win. Amherst outshot its hosts, 30 to 18. The Mammoths finished 2 for 5 on the power-play, while Bowdoin was 2 for 2.
