HARTFORD, Conn. -- Despite 14 points from senior Grant Robinson and 11 from senior Garrett Day, the Amherst College men's basketball team dropped a 62-53 decision to Trinity Friday in conference play.

Amherst fell to 15-7 overall, 5-4 in conference play while Trinity improved to 12-8, 3-5 in the NESCAC. The Mammoths complete their regular-season schedule Saturday at 3 p.m. with a road game against Connecticut College.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Mammoths fell into a 6-0 hole quickly and trailed 24-9 with 9:53 remaining in the first half. A pair of free throws by Noah Helmke and a three-pointer from C.J. Mitchell started a 9-0 run that brought the Mammoths back to 24-18. Robinson had the final four points of the run, and then had a nice assist that Will Scherer turned in a dunk to make it 26-20., Trinity was up 33-27 at the half.

* In the second half, the Mammoths got down by as much as 10 and trailed 50-41 before an 8-0 run brought that back within one points at 50-49 with 5:07 left in the contest. A pair of Day three-balls sandwiched a nice drive to the basket by Beluolisah Oranye that comprised the run. With 3:57 to go, Tim McCarthy nailed a three that made it 54-52 Trinity, but a missed three-pointer followed by a Mammoth turnover on the next possession allowed the Bantams to increase their lead back to six and never look back.
