AMHERST, Mass. -- First-year
Marie-Eve Marleau scored twice Saturday as the #5 Amherst College women's hockey team returned to the ice with a 6-1 victory over UMass-Boston on their home ice of Orr Rink.
The Mammoths improved to 8-1-0 with the victory. It was the seventh straight win for the Mammoths. They are back in action Tuesday for a game at #15 SUNY-Oswego. The puck drop is slated for 5 p.m.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Marleau opened the scoring just over one minute into the contest, snapping a loose puck up on the doorstep and firing a shot top shelf on the left side.
Avery Flynn, who had blocked a clear attempt to keep the puck in the zone, and
Anna Baxter earned assists on the play.Â
* After the Beacons tied the score just 3:06 later, it took Amherst just under five minutes to regain the lead with 10:41 remaining in the period.
Alyssa Xu picked the puck out of the skates of a Beacon defender around center ice and skated in on a 2-on-1 with teammate
Ellie DeCarlo. Xu elected to keep the puck as she skated in toward the UMass-Boston goal, and snapped a shot from the lower left circle that found the top shelf on the right side of the goal for the lead.Â

Rylee Glennon's fourth goal of the season made it 3-1 with 11:31 left in the second period. Only 30 seconds later it was 4-1.
Kate Pohl slid a backhand pass to linemate
Carley Daly, who skated into the lower right corner of the left circle, then fired a sharp-angle shot toward the goal.
Maeve Reynolds, stationed at the near left post, deflected the puck past the goalie on the short side for the three-goal advantage.Â
* With 8:08 left in the third, Marleau struck again, this time from the mid-slot with a sharp wrister that beat the goalie for a 5-1 lead.
Maggie Groszek completed the scoring with 2:02 to go in the game with a tip-in from close range in front of the goal.Â
BY THE NUMBERS:
* Both Flynn and
Leslie Schwartz had two assists in the contest. The Mammoths held a 54-13 advantage in shots for the game.
* The Mammoths won 38 of 58 face-offs in the contest. Reynolds won 14 of the 22 she drew, while Baxter won 10 of 14 and
Jayna Park 9 of 14.

Natalie Stott and
Kaila Bush combined for 12 saves for the Mammoths. Bush played the final 8:08 in the net for Amherst.Â
