AMHERST, Mass. --
Quinton Fox scored one and assisted on another goal Saturday afternoon and
Alex Wisco made 27 saves to help the Amherst College men's hockey team edge conference rival #11 Trinity, 3-2, at Orr Rink.
Amherst head coach
Jack Arena '83 won his 500th game in the process, becoming the 10th men's coach at the Div. III level to reach that milestone. Arena is now 500-374-81 (.566 win percentage) over his 39 seasons at Amherst. He is the fourth winningest active coach in Div. III men's hockey and the 10th all-time.
"Jack is an amazing teacher, coach and mentor," said Amherst College Director of Athletics Don Faulstick. "He has made such an positive impact in lives of current and past players under his leadership. It was never a question if he'd get to 500, just when. It was awesome to see how hard the team played this entire weekend to get these two wins."
Arena won the Hobey Baker Award in 1982-83 as a player at Amherst and began coaching at the school the following season. This is his 40th year and 39th season for the Purple & White.
"Obviously very few people are fortunate enough to do a job like this as long as I have," Arena said. "With that longevity comes some milestones, but the nice thing about it is -- the wins are great -- but 40 years and it's never felt like work, which I think probably goes a long way to making this as enjoyable and as successful as it's been, and I've been lucky too, I've had some great people to work with. It's certainly an honor to have a place like Amherst College want me for this long."
