#14 Mammoths dive into new season with 182-101 victory at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team opened the 2022-23 season by winning 12 of 16 events en route to a 182-101 victory over NESCAC rival Colby on Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center.

Senior Jess Gordon, sophomore Ali Lacroix and first-year Diane Koo each won two events and five first-years topped the podium in their collegiate debuts.

The Mammoths, ranked 14th in the nation in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, are back in action on Monday (Nov. 21), visiting Little Three rival Wesleyan for a dual meet at 5 p.m.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

* Lacroix swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.58 and touching first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.73. Lacroix also posted a time of 2:11.87 swimming the 200-yard individual medley as an exhibition.

* Gordon won both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She led an Amherst sweep of the top four spots in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.98 and helped the Mammoths take the top two spots in the 500 free, touching in 5:14.72.

* Koo swept the butterfly events in her collegiate debut with a time of 59.18 in the 100-yard butterfly and a mark of 2:10.67 in the 200-yard butterfly.

* Sophomore Sydney Bluestein and first-year Donna Zhang finished first and second in each of the diving events. Bluestein topped the field with a score of 283.13 on the one-meter board, while Zhang won on the three-meter board with a score of 257.18 in her collegiate debut.

* First-year Emory Tudor led an Amherst sweep of the top three spots in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:10.80.

* First-year Ally Bradley won her first individual collegiate race, taking first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 59.50.

* First-year Alex Zorn was also a winner in her first collegiate meet, winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.36.

* Senior Margaret McNamara was the sole entrant in the longest race of the day, the 1000-yard freestyle, and finished in 11:05.73.
