HENNIKER, New Hampshire – Senior
Isabel Stern scored a hat-trick and senior
Isabelle Geneve scored a brace to help the #16 Amherst College women's soccer team ease past non-conference opponent, the New England College Pilgrims, in a 9-0 win on Don Melander Field on Sunday afternoon.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Amherst began the game with total control of possession which provided the Mammoths with ample opportunities to engage in fast passing and seek an opening goal. Amherst started to test the home side's goalkeeper, Stephanie Bronowicki, within four minutes of kick-off. The Mammoths' third attempt opened the scoring in the eighth minute when
Isabelle Geneve recorded her first goal of the season. Less than three minutes later, the Mammoths doubled their advantage with their next shot. This time, Stern converted an assist from senior Sullivan to score. To make the scoreline 3-0, Geneve doubled her season scoring record one second after junior
Abby Schwartz's shot was denied by an athletic Bronowicki save.
* The Mammoths' fourth goal came directly from a penalty kick taken by Stern in the 30th minute. First-year
Sophia Haynes scored Amherst's fifth goal three minutes after missing a shot narrowly wide. Shortly before the break, first-year
Brooke Ingemi became Amherst's fifth goalscorer as Amherst gained a 6-0 lead to conclude a dominant first half.
* The Mammoths decided to substitute
Mika Fisher off the field to give first-year goalkeeper Lulu Fickes her debut half of soccer for the Mammoths. Within five minutes, Stern added another goal for the away side and completed her hat trick. Sophomore
Charlotte McGuire and junior
Liza Katz were Amherst's last two scorers with two goals one minute apart. New England College's best opportunities came towards the end of the game; the Pilgrims had two shots wide of the goal with less than 10 minutes until full time.
* New England College failed to have a shot on goal throughout the 90 minutes to force either Fisher or Fickes to make a save. The away win gives Amherst its 4th win on the bounce.
