Glennon's goal in third period lifts Mammoths to 2-1 win over Connecticut College

AMHERST, Mass. -- Sophomore Rylee Glennon scored with 10 minutes, 35 seconds left in the third period Tuesday night, lifting the Amherst College women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over conference foe Connecticut College at Orr Rink.

Amherst improved to 6-7 overall, 3-5 in conference play, while the Camels fell to 6-8-2 overall, 2-7 in the NESCAC. The Mammoths are at Wesleyan Friday night for a 7 p.m. first face-off.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

* Glennon's game-winner was set up by some great hustle from first-year forward Alyssa Xu, who raced past a Camel defender to collect the puck in the Conn. College zone, cut left toward the goal and had the puck slide off her stick in the slot.. Glennon, trailing on the play, swooped in to gather it, skated to her right, turned and fired a shot back to the left that found the net for the 2-1 advantage.

* Amherst snapped a scoreless tie with 1:32 remaining in the first period when Elizabeth Holubiak took a shot from the right point that was stopped. In the ensuing melee in front of the goal, Carley Daly pushed the puck back out to the slot where Angelina Wiater collected it and fired a low wrister into the bottom right corner of the goal.

* The Mammoths had a couple of strong opportunities to re-take the lead after Conn.'s Melanie Conca had tied it. Daly broke over the Camels blueline 2-on-1 with Anna Baxter, sliding a pass to her left that found Baxter's tape, but Camel goalie Abby Wieczorek foiled the play with a nice left pad save. Amherst had a 5-on-3 power-play chance for 1:12 a few minutes later and generated several chances, the majority which were blocked,
