THAT NAME SOUNDS FAMILIAR
The Pratt name that graces several facilities at Amherst comes from the same family for whom Pratt Institute is named. Pratt Institute was founded by and named for industrialist Charles Pratt. His six sons all graduated from Amherst in the late 19th century, including Harold Pratt, for whom Pratt Pool is named, and Frederic Pratt, the namesake of Pratt Field who went on to become the third president of Pratt Institute where he served for 44 years and was the guiding force in the institution's early history.
