No. 18 Mammoths Blank Connecticut College, 4-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – A three-goal first half lifted the Mammoths to victory, as the No. 18 Amherst College women's soccer team captured their fifth shut out of the season with a 4-0 win over Connecticut College Saturday afternoon at Silfen Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 5-1 on the season and to 2-1 in conference action. The Mammoths return to the field on Tuesday, September 28 when they host Emerson at Hitchcock Field beginning at 4:30PM.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Connecticut College's Emily Lorry fired a shot off the crossbar in the third minute, but that would be the closest that the Camels came to finding the back of the net in the 4-0 shutout.
  • Senior Natalie Landau struck twice in a four-minute span to kick off scoring for the Mammoths, logging the game-winner on an unassisted tally at the 19:20 mark before beating the Camels' netminder once again in the 23rd minute with an assist from Carter Hollingsworth '25 to give Amherst a 2-0 lead.
  • Taking a 3-0 advantage into intermission, Hollingsworth powered a dish from fellow first-year Patience Kum into the nylon with 1:09 remaining before the break.
  • The second half saw Connecticut College own a 14-10 edge in shot attempts, however sophomore Mika Fisher was shut down in between the pipes for the Mammoths and kept the home team without a score.
  • Kum added an insurance tally for Amherst at the 66:20 mark to cap off the 4-0 win, capitalizing on an unassisted breakaway.
