Mammoths Shut Out Connecticut College, 2-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Striking twice in just 1:10, the Mammoths had all they needed to capture the victory, as the Amherst College men's soccer team posted their fourth consecutive clean sheet with a 2-0 win over Connecticut College Saturday afternoon at Harkness Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 5-1 on the season and to 2-1 in conference action. The Mammoths return to the field on Tuesday, September 28 when they host Stevens at Hitchcock Field beginning at 4:15PM.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Shots were scarce from either side in a tightly contested opening to the matchup, but two goals from Amherst in a 1:10 span gave the visitors a comfortable lead heading into intermission.
  • Finding the back of the net at the 33:43 mark, senior Felix Wu capitalized on a corner kick drive from Gabe Gitler '22 and redirected the cross into the nylon.
  • Adding an insurance dagger in the 34th minute, Jonny Novak '24 found German Giammattei '22 for the senior's second score of the year.
  • Connecticut College had two chances to score within the last five minutes of the first half, but Amherst junior goalkeeper Bernie White was able to smother both shots to keep the Camels off the board.
  • The Camels rebounded in the second half by outshooting the Mammoths, 6-2, but they were unable to add to the scoresheet as a chance from Augie Djerdjaj in the 56th minute sailed wide before a solid opportunity from MT Tshuma with 5:42 remaining in regulation was turned away by White.
