AMHERST, Mass. – Splitting the weekend, the No. 4 Amherst College women's soccer team bounced back from a tough, 2-1 overtime loss to Hamilton College on Saturday with a big 8-0 victory over Keene State College a day later to set their record at 4-1-0 on the season.
Amherst returns to the field next Saturday, September, 25 when they travel to Connecticut College for a 11:30AM bout.
GAME ONE: Amherst 1, Hamilton 2 (OT)
- The Continentals opened the scoring at 78:08 following a tightly contested, but scoreless, first half and an Amherst turnover. Recovering the ball in front of the net, Olivia Morrow gave Hamilton a 1-0 lead as she sent a shot off the Mammoths' keeper and over the goal line.
- Tying the score in the 85th minute, Alexa Juarez '22 came through in the clutch for the home team as she converted on a penalty kick following a foul by the Hamilton goalie to force OT.
- Capturing the victory 2:27 into overtime, Morrow once again found the back of the net as she found the ball in a scrum following a save by Mika Fisher '24, cut right, and slid a low shot into the opposite corner to give Hamilton the 2-1 win.
- Amherst owned the edge in shots (19-10), shots on goal (9-8) and corner kicks (6-2).
- Fisher (3-1) took the loss for the Mammoths in frame, making four saves, while Caity Smith registered eight stops in the winning effort for the Continentals.
GAME TWO: Amherst 8, Keene State 0
- The first of three Amherst goals in the opening half, Hastie netted what stood as the game-winner with 25:57 on the clock following a throw in from the right side. Collecting the ball, Juarez found Hastie who snuck a shot inside the right post.
- Doubling their advantage three minutes later, Natalie Landau '22 powered a low shot into the opposite corner with an assist from Hastie to pot her first of four goals in the game.
- Taking a 3-0 lead into the half, Abby Schwartz '24 capped off the Mammoths' three-goal onslaught in just 4:03 as Hastie connected with the sophomore who drove a shot off the keeper and into the top corner.
- Amherst continued to roll in the second half, with Landau recording three goals in six minutes to set the score at 6-0 with 34 minutes remaining. Sophia Fikke '22, Liza Katz '24, and Hastie were credited with the assists on the scores.
- Patience Kum '25 and Ally Deegan '24 tallied the final two goals for the Mammoths to lift Amherst to the 8-0 victory, with the duo striking at the 78:51 and 88:28 mark, respectively.
- Fisher (4-1) earned the win in goal for Amherst, going untested in 77:25, while Brooke Harrington '22 played the final 12:35 in relief. Abbie Terrinca (1-3) took the loss for the Owls, making 14 saves.
- Amherst dominated momentum throughout the contest, outshooting the visitors 40-1 and owning a 13-3 edge in corner kicks.
