AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College baseball team used the program's fourth no-hitter in the past 50 years to help secure the series win against Hamilton College, with the Mammoths bouncing back from a hard-fought game one loss to take the next two contests and improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Mammoths return to the field next Saturday, April 24 when they host archrival Williams in a doubleheader at Memorial Field beginning at 1:00PM.
GAME ONE | Hamilton 7, Amherst 4 | Box Score
Tagging home plate in their first at bat to jump out to an early lead, the Mammoths added two more runs in the top of the third to push the score to 3-1. A five-run bottom of the third by the home team stood as the difference maker however, as the sides traded runs in the fourth before three straight scoreless innings secured Hamilton's 7-4 victory.
- Luke Padian '24 got the Mammoths on the board in the top of the first, singling to left field with runners on first and second to send Joseph Palmo '21 home.
- Responding in the bottom of the second, a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third before a Jackson Sattinger single tied the game at one all.
- Retaking the lead in the third, Padian picked up his second and third RBI on the day following a Palmo walk and a double from Daniel Qin '22 as he ripped another well-timed single to give Amherst a 3-1 edge.
- Hamilton's bats came alive in the bottom half of the inning in what stood as the difference maker in the contest, as the Continentals used a homer, two triples, and three singles to put five runs on the board and take their first lead of the day, 6-3.
- Getting back into striking distance in the fourth, three straight singles to start the inning set up Michael Perales '24 to record an RBI.
- The Continentals countered with a run of their own in the bottom half, and what stood as the final run of the game, as Hamilton clinched the victory.
Junior
Sachin Nambiar (1-1) took the loss for Amherst, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out two, while
Ian Donahue '24 struck out four and gave up just two hits in 3.0 innings in relief. David Galvao (1-0) earned the win for Hamilton, not allowing a hit in 3.0 innings, while Ethan Harrast was credited with the save.

Stepping on the mound for his first-ever collegiate start, first-year
Nick Giattino had one of the best openings to a career a Mammoth could ask for as he tossed 6.2 innings before teaming up with
Alan Dai '24 to register Amherst baseball's first no-hitter since 2014 when
Fred Shepard '14 recorded a no-no against Fontbonne University. The duo's efforts, as well as a three-run fourth inning by the Mammoths, lifted the visitors to a 3-1 win.
- The Mammoths broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the fourth, logging three runs. Taking to the box with one out, Padian ground-rule doubled to center field before Chris Murphy '22 hit him home with a double down the right field line to get the visitors on the board.
- With the bases loaded following a  Tyler Marshall '21 single and Camden New '24 walk, Dai came through in the clutch, powering a hard-hit single just inside fair territory to register two RBI and set the score at 3-0.
- Retiring the side in order in four of the seven innings, Giattino faced just six Continental batters in the fifth and sixth to hold the Mammoths lead at three heading into the final inning.
- After recording the first two outs of the seventh, four consecutive walks got Hamilton on the board and kept the Mammoths from a shutout, however Schlaefer was quickly retired via strikeout by Dai to give Amherst the no-no and 3-1 victory.
- The no-hitter by Giattino and Dai marks just the fourth-ever no-no by an Amherst pitcher in the past 50 years.
Giattino (1-0) was credited with the win for Amherst, striking out seven during the no-hitter, while Dai struck out the final Hamilton hitter to get credit for the save. Gavin Schaefer-Hood (1-2) gave up five hits and three runs in 4.0 innings in the loss for Hamilton, while Sattinger gave up two hits and struck out six in 3.0 innings in relief.

GAME THREE | Amherst 12, Hamilton 5 | Box Score
Registering two-or-more runs in four different innings, the Mammoths' offense dominated to the tune of 13 total hits, including three doubles, as Amherst secured the series victory with a 12-5 win at Memorial Field.
- Singles from Padian and Murphy combined with an error by the Continentals and a hit by pitch got the home team on the board in the bottom of the first to set the score at 3-0.
- Responding in kind in their next at bat, Hamilton evened the game at 3-3 behind singles from Schaefer and Brady Slinger and a double by Phil Bernstein.
- Getting back on top in the fourth, the Mammoths batted through the order to take a 7-3 edge. Dai highlighted the inning with a deep double to left center to tally the first RBI of the inning.
- In the top half of the sixth Dai put his defensive prowess on display, with the right fielder robbing Jacob Han of a hit with a spectacular diving grab.
- Adding two more runs to the board in the bottom of the inning, a successful double steal by Padian and Qin put runners on second and third before Murphy sent them both across home plate with a stand-up double.
- After a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, Amherst pushed their lead to 12-3 as Palmo doubled to capitalize on Dai and Jackson Reydel's '23 back-to-back singles to start the inning before tagging home plate himself on a grounder by Qin two batters later.
- A late push by the visitors saw Hamilton plate two runs in the ninth, however Amherst was able to secure the final out before any real damage was done to lock in the 12-5 win.
Sen Kenneally '22 tossed 2.0 innings in the start for the Mammoths, striking out one, while first-year
Jacob Ribitzki (1-0) earned his first collegiate victory after stepping in to throw the final 7.0 innings in relief – allowing seven hits and striking out two. Six different Continentals saw time on the mound in the contest, with David Galvao (1-1) taking the loss after giving up three runs while not recording an out.
