MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The Amherst College women's swimming and diving team made it back-to-back dual meet wins to start the season with a 190-99 win over Little Three rival Wesleyan University on Monday at the Wesleyan Natatorium. First-year Allison LaCroix swept the breaststroke races and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team.
The Mammoths (2-0), ranked 14th in the latest CSCAA Division III poll, defeat the Cardinals (0-3) for the 27th straight season to kick off the competition for the Little Three title, which will be decided on Jan. 8 when Amherst visits Williams. Amherst is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 4, visiting NESCAC rival Middlebury for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
- In a meet that highlighted shorter races, LaCroix won the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke after swimming the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay team.
- The other three members of the winning 200 medley relay team won individual events as well, with sophomore Lauren Eng touching first in the 50-yard butterfly, senior Marie Fagan winning the 100-yard butterfly and sophomore Grace Tarantola taking the 100-yard backstroke.
- Junior Jessica Gordon won both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle, leading an Amherst sweep in the latter event that saw the five Mammoths take the top five spots.
