AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women's soccer team finished up their week with an overwhelming victory on Saturday afternoon at Hitchcock Field as they shutout Colby and defeated the Mules, 5-0. Keeping up their impressive record this season, they added another win to their collection, moving their record to 12-1-1 overall. Colby drops to 4-7-2 overall and 0-7-2 in the NESCAC.
The Mammoths wasted no time after the opening whistle and jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16
th minute.
Sierra Rosado '25 scored her second goal of the season to begin a barrage of Amherst goals. Just seven minutes later,
Ruby Hastie '22 scored her seventh goal of the season – good for third most on the team – and Rosado found the nylon once again three minutes after Hastie in the 25
th minute. With a 3-0 lead in the first half, the Mammoths remained confident heading into the locker room as they held Colby scoreless in the first 45-minutes and outshot the Mules 10-3.
Following a scoring drought from the end of the first half,
Isabel Stern '23 registered her first goal of the year with the help of her teammate
Carter Hollingsworth '25, who notched her second assist of the season. Not even 10 minutes later,
Patience Kum '25 scored the final goal for the Mammoths, putting the finishing touches on a dominant weekend performance.
Patience Kum '25 has had quite the first-year campaign to this point. The native of Ghana leads not only the Mammoths in goals (11) and points (25), but also the entire NESCAC conference in both categories. Kum has also compiled an impressive shot percentage, scoring her 11 goals on only 30 shots for an efficient mark of 36.7%.
In Saturday afternoon's tilt on Hitchcock Field, the Mammoths owned advantages in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks, and controlled the pace of the game easily. Amherst keeper
Mika Fisher '24 made four saves in her eleventh win of the season, bringing her goals-against-average to an impressive .38/game with the shutout. Colby keeper Emily McMaster made seven saves in her 90-minutes in goal for the Mules.
With their winning streak intact, the Mammoth's head into their last regular season match at Gooding Field against Trinity on October 26 @ 5PM.
