AMHERST, MA – The No. 16 Amherst women's soccer team completed their weekend sweep on Sunday afternoon at Hitchcock Field with a dominant 3-0 victory over New England College. Just 24 hours removed from a huge NESCAC win at Tufts, the Mammoths outshot the Pilgrims of New England College 45-1 en route to an impressive all-around offensive display. The Mammoths move to 11-1-1 overall and 4-9-0 in the NESCAC, while the Pilgrims drop to 4-9-0 on the season.
Amherst controlled possession and the flow of the game from the early going and was finally able to break the 0-0 tie in the 34
th minute when
Abby Schwartz '24 scored her fourth goal of the season. Although the Mammoths only scored once, they outshot the Pilgrims 22-0 in the first half.
Finding the nylon two times late in the second half, the Mammoths used Patience Kim's '25 team-leading tenth tally of the season to make the lead 2-0.
Abby Schwartz assisted on Kim's marker and finished the game with three points. With just a couple minutes remaining in regulation,
Claire Nam '22 scored her first goal of the season and cemented the Mammoths 3-0 victory.
Pilgrims' goalkeeper Emily Sashko turned in an outstanding effort, stopping 13 of the 16 shots that the Mammoths put on target.
Mika Fisher '24 saved the only shot she faced for the Mammoths registering her 11
th win in goal and eighth clean sheet of the season.
The Mammoths look to inch up in the national rankings after a strong two-win weekend and return to Hitchcock Field next Saturday October 23
rd to take on Colby College.
