Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. – The Mammoths shone final 10 minutes of action, netting three scores against the Continentals in an explosive third period as the Amherst College men's ice hockey team rallied to a 4-1 victory over Hamilton Saturday evening at Sage Rink.
With the win, Amherst improves to 7-6-3 overall and to 5-3-3 in league action, while Hamilton falls to 9-6-1 on the season (4-6-1 NESCAC). Amherst returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 23 when they travel to Babson for a 7 p.m. matchup.
Getting the Mammoths on the board, Max Roche '19 tallied his second score of the winter at the 13: 16 mark in the opening period. Forcing a turnover in the offensive zone while on the penalty kill, Roche's score marked Amherst's second short-handed goal of the season.
Hamilton responded with 4:39 on the clock in the second stanza, as Jason Brochu collected a dish from Sterling Bray and rifled a shot past the Amherst keeper.
Breaking the 1-1 deadlock with 9:01 remaining in regulation, Noah Gilreath '20 logged the game-winner on a pass from Tyler Granara '18 and opened the floodgates for the Mammoths.
Will Vosejpka '18 found the back of the net less than three minutes later to give Amherst a 3-1 cushion, while Jack Fitzgerald '19 slid a shot past the Continentals' keeper while on the power play at the 17:25 mark to lift the Mammoths to the 4-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
- In between the pipes, Connor Girard '18 (4-3-3) recorded 22 saves in the winning effort for Amherst, while Anthony Tirabassi (3-3-0) made 31 stops for Hamilton.
- The Mammoths owned a 35-23 advantage in shot differential, including a 12-4 advantage in the second period.
- On the power play, Amherst finished 1-for-5, while Hamilton went 0-for-3 up a skater.
