Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. – Despite holding a 6-5 edge in shots in the second half, the Purple & White were unable to rebound from a Continental goal in the 14th minute as the sixth-seeded Amherst College field hockey team fell to third-seeded Hamilton College, 1-0 in Saturday afternoon's NESCAC Quarterfinal matchup at Goodfriend Field
With the loss, Amherst falls to 11-5 on the year, while Hamilton improves to 12-4 overall.
Recording her 13th score of the fall, Michaela Giuttari tallied the game's lone goal at the 14:30 mark following a dish by Margaret Revera. Gathering the ball near the left post, Revera sent an impressive no-look pass to Giuttari in the middle of the box who quickly one-timed a shot into the open net.
Sophomore Kendall Codey nearly evened the score 6:14 into the second half, as she ripped a shot on net from the top left of the circle following an Amherst corner, but her attempt rang off the post.
Julia Booth came up big for Hamilton less than a minute later to preserve the Continental's 1-0 lead as she came off her line and made a sliding stop on a breakaway attempt by Laura Schwartzman '20 after the first-year corralled a near-perfect leading pass from Sara Culhane '17 behind the defense.
With nine seconds remaining in the game, Shannon Tierney '19 earned one final offensive chance for the Purple & White, but Booth cut down the angle and recorded a kick save to seal the Hamilton victory.
