Jeffs Shut Out 17th-Ranked Springfield, 3-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team shut out No. 17 Springfield College on Wednesday, 3-0, using goals from senior co-captain Christine Ryan (Summit, NJ), fellow senior Lauren Sozio (Dedham, MA) and sophomore Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO) to earn their fifth consecutive win and remain undefeated.

Amherst nearly went scoreless in the first half, but Skrivan found the cage with her first career goal off a deflected shot with 51 seconds remaining to give the Jeffs a 1-0 lead at the break. Ryan and Sozio added insurance goals in the second half for their second and third goals of the season, respectively.

The visiting Pride mustered only two shots in the loss, as a stingy Amherst defense dominated their attack. Junior goalkeeper K.C. Cosentino (Greenwich, CT) saved both shots and posted her third shutout of the season for the Jeffs. Junior Lindsey Pardue (Houston, TX) had eight saves in the loss and Springfield falls to 4-3 on the year.

Amherst hosts 10th-ranked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College Saturday at 11 a.m.
