CLINTON, N.Y. – Mike Rowbotham '15 notched his second goal in as many nights, while Conor Brown '16 had a pair of scores to help lead the Amherst men's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Hamilton College.

Taking both games of the opening weekend set with the Continentals, Amherst improved to 2-0-0 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in NESCAC play.

Converting 2-of-6 power plays on Friday night, the Jeffs once again found the back of the net while on the man-advantage in the rematch, going 1-for-4 on the night. Hamilton, which was just 1-for-7 on power plays 24 hours ago, could only take advantage of 1-of-5 man-up opportunities against Amherst on Saturday.

Staking the Purple & White to an early margin, Rowbotham made sure the visitors took advantage of their second power play chance, scoring an unassisted tally just 48 seconds into a two-minute Hamilton boarding penalty midway through the first.

Outshooting the Continentals 8-3 in the opening period, Amherst continued to control play in the middle frame, holding an 8-4 shot advantage. Just five minutes into the stanza, Brown added to the Jeff tally, hammering home his third of the year with the help of a Brian Safstrom '14 feed.

Going on the offensive, Hamilton held a 7-1 shot advantage over the final 20 minutes. Unable to score on its first four man-up advantages, the Continentals final broke through in the waning moments of regulation thanks to a Kenny Matheson '16 tally at 18:57. With the Jeffs clinging onto a one-goal lead and Hamilton pulling its goalie for an extra attacker, Brown wrapped up the scoring with an empty netter at 19:49.

Amherst finished with a 17-14 shot on goal advantage, while goaltender Dave Cunningham '16 finished with 13 saves, including six in the final period. Senior counterpart Joe Quattrocchi had 14 stops.

The Jeffs return to action on Sat. Nov. 23 against Trinity.
