NEW LONDON, Conn.- Madeline Tank '15 and Katie McMahon '13 both scored first half goals to lead the 14th-ranked Amherst College field hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Connecticut College.

With the win, the Lord Jeffs closed out the regular season with a record of 10-4 (6-4 NESCAC), while the Camels finished up at 7-7 (4-6 NESCAC).

Both teams will play road games Saturday in the first round of the NESCAC Championships. Locking in the No. 5 seed, Amherst will visit fourth-seeded Trinity College, while Conn. College travels to Middlebury to face off against the top-seeded Panthers.

Tank opened the scoring in the 12th minute when she found the back of the cage for her 11th goal of the season. Playing a penalty corner to the top of the circle, Ellie Andersen '15 found Alex Philie '14, who ripped a shot toward the cage. Getting a stick in front, Tank redirected the ball into the lower left corner, staking the Jeffs to an early lead.

With 5:55 remaining in the half, McMahon added an insurance tally. Once again starting the penalty corner, Andersen found Philie, who slid a pass to the left to McMahon. Looking to goal, the senior fired a low shot into the left corner to double the Amherst margin.

Ali Holland '13 and Laura Sanderson '15 both had three shots for the Camels, but Conn. College couldn't slip one past goalkeeper Rachel Tannenbaum '15, who stopped 11 shots en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Becca Napolitano '15 made nine saves in the setback.

Shots were even at 11 apiece, but the Lord Jeffs enjoyed a 13-to-5 edge in corners.
